Inmate Rachel Adams undergoes an identical procedure with an elevated sentence of thirty-six strokes, divided into two sets of eighteen. Guard Johnny Lake delivers the punishment without leniency. During the final phase, she sobs uncontrollably from the sheer torment of the unrelenting cane strokes and verbally mouths off to the nurse, who responds by authorizing supplementary correction. The dreaded prison tawse is applied to Rachel’s hands, resulting in acute pain and renewed tears.
